The Green to Gold program is designed to identify talented enlisted soldiers who are considering leaving or have already decided to leave active duty in order to pursue higher education and earn a commission as an Army officer. Participants in the program can work toward either a baccalaureate or graduate degree while also participating in the ROTC leadership development program.
Green to Gold options include:
Green to Gold Scholarship OptionÌý–ÌýSoldiers selected for this option will leave active duty to attend college, with the program available in two, three, or four-year formats. The Army provides full tuition and fees or room and board (capped at $10,000), a $600 per semester book allowance, and a monthly stipend of $420.
Green to Gold Active-Duty OptionÌý–ÌýSoldiers selected for this option will remain on active duty and be reassigned to a university location. They must be able to complete their degree requirements within two years. During this time, soldiers retain their current pay and allowances while finishing their final two years of school. Soldiers are responsible for covering the cost of tuition, fees, and books, but many choose to use their GI benefits, such as the Montgomery G.I. Bill / Army College Fund (MGIB/ACF), to help cover these expenses.
Green to Gold Non-Scholarship OptionÌý–ÌýQualified soldiers will leave active duty to attend college and must complete their degree requirements within two years. The Army will provide a monthly stipend of $420. All other expenses, including tuition, fees, and books, are the soldier’s responsibility. Most soldiers use their Post 9/11 GI Bill benefits to cover the cost of school and provide a living allowance.
All Green to Gold cadets are eligible for ÌÒñ«ÉçÇø housing and food grant stipend when living off campus.
