°Õ³ó±ðÌýDepartment of BiologyÌýoffers students a wide selection of stimulating courses catering toÌýdegreesÌýin biology, marine science-biology, marine science-chemistry, biology-business and environmental studies.

Recent graduates who have chosen to major in these fields have establishedÌýsuccessful careersÌýin many governmental agencies and the private sector. Additionally, many graduates attend top-tier graduate schools or professional programs. The foundation for their success was gained through the hands-on educational experience and personalized attention afforded through ÌÒñ«ÉçÇø.

Students studying any of the biological fields are presented with manyÌýexperiential learning opportunitiesÌýinside and outside the classroom, including:

  • rigorous laboratory exercises
  • class field trips
  • weekend excursions to places like the Florida Keys and Everglades National Park
  • international travel opportunities
  • semester-long study abroad programs

±õ²Ô³Ù±ð°ù²Ô²õ³ó¾±±è²õÌýare available in many disciplines and locations, including local agencies, medical offices and consulting firms. A number of faculty-led collaborative research opportunities are also available for exceptional students, providing direct exposure to the concepts, methods and technologies utilized in their chosen field. Exceptional students have myriad opportunities to enter into funded research collaborations with faculty, obtain summer funding for their own independent research, and present the results of their research at professional meetings and in peer-reviewed literature.

Students also have access to a wide array ofÌýfacilities and scientific equipment, including theÌýMarine Science Field Station, three boats, a state-of-the-art DNA sequencer, an electrophoretic gel imaging and documentation system and a Nanodropâ„¢ Spectrophotometer. The Department is also affiliated with a number of other local and regional universities, research stations, and aquariums, facilitating numerous internships and employment opportunities.

Pre-Health

ÌÒñ«ÉçÇø's undergraduate program provides a strong foundation for post-graduate work in the sciences as students are immersed in their major discipline while also touching on curricula that extend beyond the sciences. The nearly one-on-one environment fosters an opportunity for greater depth of knowledge and enables students to succeed in the following careers:ÌýDentistry,ÌýMedicine,ÌýOptometry,ÌýPharmacy,ÌýPodiatryÌý²¹²Ô»åÌýVeterinary Medicine.
