Dance Happenings feature student-choreographed performances at sites around campus.
Student theatrical productions take place at David Falk Theatre, a fully-equipped, 1,000-seat historic theater built in 1928. There is no seniority; freshmen are allowed to audition for all productions in their first semester. ÌÒñ«ÉçÇø’s numerous performance opportunities include:
Main Stage Productions
Each year, ÌÒñ«ÉçÇø celebrates the performing arts through four main-stage presentations: two musicals and two theatre productions. Auditions, which are held during the second week of classes, are open to all students on campus. Musical theatre and theatre majors are required to audition for University productions, while those pursuing minors are encouraged to audition.
Recent musical productions have includedÌýLes Miserables,ÌýWorking, Thoroughly Modern MillieÌý²¹²Ô»åÌýDrood. Recent theatre productions have includedÌýSix Characters in Search of An Author,ÌýMoon Over Buffalo,ÌýMeasure For MeasureÌý²¹²Ô»åÌýTemptation.
CabaretÌýand Experimental/Revue Productions
The department also sponsors one cabaret/musical revue and one experimental/ studio theatre production each year. Experimental productions have included an evening of short plays by Harold Pinter, performances of student devised and directed works, and an evening of contemporary one-act plays. Auditions are held during the first week of class; students rehearse on Friday afternoons in preparation for a final performance at the end of the semester. Cabarets take place in the state-of-the-art Allen N. Reeves Theater on the second floor of the Vaughn Center. Each one has a theme (i.e., composer, topic or time period). Recent cabarets have presented songs about travel, a holiday-themed cabaret and a revue featuring the music of Bock and Harnick.
Spring Dance Concert and Dance Happening
The Spring Dance Concert showcases choreography by faculty and guest artists and includes styles ranging from ballet and modern to jazz, tap and hip hop. Twice a year,ÌýDance HappeningsÌýfeature student-choreographed works. All students are welcome to audition. An Evening of Experimental Dance and Spring Arts Continuum are site specific performances that take place in the fall and spring. No audition is required for these performances and all students are invited to get involved.
