桃瘾社区鈥檚 Career Readiness Course Awarded by Global Summit

A course within 桃瘾社区鈥檚 new Spartan Studies general education curriculum was recognized at the 2023 Global Career Services Summit held in London.
A course within 桃瘾社区鈥檚 new Spartan Studies general education curriculum was recognized at the 2023 Global Career Services Summit held in London.
The course, titled 桃瘾社区AMPA 201 Career Readiness, won Best Faculty Program for its collaboration between faculty and career services staff. The entire Office of Career Services contributed to the course development with Cheri Etling-Paulsen, associate dean of the Center for Teaching and Learning, and a faculty task force made up of faculty members from each of 桃瘾社区鈥檚 four colleges. The task force included Christopher Boulton, assistant professor of communication; Meredith Elzy, associate professor of psychology; Eric Freundt, associate professor of biology; and Speros Margetis, professor of finance.
Career Readiness is a required component of the Spartan Studies program. Kelly Allgeier, associate director of career services, said that the online course will introduce students to resources that will help them determine their career goals and develop a professional portfolio. Learning objectives include identifying possible career paths based on interests, identifying skills that are relevant to interests, articulating ways in which students can develop relevant skills, and creating a professional cover letter, resume and reference list.
The Global Career Services Summit is a community of global career service leaders who develop, implement and supervise career services at higher education institutions around the world.
